Creative Council

At Creative Council, we aim to merge talent and real-world strategies by sharing artistic skills and market knowledge. For 6 days, you’ll draw and paint portraits with Ivan Loginov, diving into classical technique, expressive depth, and artistic clarity. Along the way, you’ll explore the business side of art, connect with fellow creatives, and share ideas, laughs, and great talks — all under the Portuguese sun.

Master classical portraiture and a sustainable art practice

In art, we often look back and think: “If only I had known that sooner.” How to build form. How to capture emotion. How to talk to galleries, price your work, or stay consistent without burning out. From that comes our commitment to artistic clarity — in your process, your path, and your place in the art world.

For 6 days, you’ll draw and paint portraits from life under the guidance of Ivan Loginov — learning not just how to capture a likeness, but how to reveal a character through form, light, and subtle nuance.

Alongside the painting sessions, you’ll have seminars on the business of art, marketing, how to work with galleries, technical deep-dives on materials, and honest conversations about mindset, consistency, and building a sustainable career. It’s six days of

Meet your mentor

Ivan’s success comes from a deep understanding of the classical school of thought in painting and drawing. He strives to combine and overlap all his skills in order to achieve an accurate representation of the human soul. He likes to implement and play with contrasts in color, technique, and ideas. Therefore, even in his large-scale history paintings, one must find clear messages of present issues in society.

“Behind every stroke lies a centuries-old tradition, and I want to share with you what I’ve studied and discovered. We won’t just be learning to draw — we’ll be unraveling how to convey the character of a person through form and light. I’ll show you everything I’ve learned and what I consider useful, the techniques I use every day in my work on personal projects. Together, we’ll strive to achieve portrait likeness and psychological depth in our portraits.”
— Ivan Loginov

    Words from our Artists

    FAQ

The Council is not an art retreat, nor is it a traditional workshop. Our goal here is not for artists to copy step-by-step the master’s techniques but to explore ways to create their signature style. We focus on artistic skill and market knowledge, studying the mindset and sharing with the supportive team, cultivating professional and personal development. You learn from modern masters, honor the foundations, and play around with what’s going to be your thing.

But this is not a boot camp where we’ll drill you to sweat. We still want you to have a holiday and a good rest, talk openly about what moves you and laugh a lot, smell the ocean, see the cliffs, taste some good wine, and listen to Fado. We believe that creativity and inspiration are key to any development.

You can choose between two options: the spot with included accommodation or without. For the lodging, we are prividing a private room in a boutique 34 Guest House hotel – right in downtown Setubal. And if you go for the ‘no lodging’ ticket, we’ve partnered with cozy guesthouses and hotels in the city center where you can book a room at a special discounted rate – we’ll send you the list after registration.

As for meals, we’ll be dining together and enjoying delicious Portuguese food, but everyone covers their own meals. This way, you can choose what you love while still sharing the experience with the group!

Well, that’s the whole point: We’ll make sure that is the only kind of knowledge you get from us (apart from silly stuff like why people hiccup – that is our mentors’ special domain, so just go with it). Art exists in a real world with real-life rules and processes, so we focus on the things that help you develop professionally, personally, and leave your mark in the art world.

The Creative Council is for emerging and established artists who want to elevate their craft and navigate the art market with confidence. It’s for those who want to master technical skills, build meaningful industry connections, and understand the intricacies of the art world (and those things just never end, whether you’ve been on the market for 1 month or 10 years, they just differ in forms and approaches).

    Join us if you are:
    - A part-time artist aspiring to go full-time and grow as an artist, committed and ready to work
    - A seasoned creator seeking to refine your voice and market strategies, expand your network, and get to the next level.

PS. Who is it not for:
    - Those looking for an art retreat or a simple holiday
    - Those after a step-by-step masterclass with an artist – you will study new techniques with the art mentor, but our goal is not to do 100% style-mimicking

Absolutely! You’re more than welcome to bring a guest along. Setúbal and the surrounding areas are full of amazing things to explore – stunning beaches, local markets, wine tastings, and breathtaking nature spots. While you're immersed in painting, your guest can enjoy everything the region has to offer.

Plus, we love having more cool people at our group meals – the more, the merrier! Just keep in mind that the workshop itself is for registered participants only.

The official workshop dates are August 11–17, and here’s how it flows:

August 11 (Monday) – We kick things off with a welcome dinner, so you can plan your arrival either on the 11th or a few days earlier if you’d like to explore Portugal and Setúbal.

August 12–16 (Tuesday–Saturday) – This is where the magic happens! We’ll be fully immersed in the art process from morning to evening, painting, experimenting, and learning together. At some point during the week, we’ll take a few hours to visit Cabo Espichel – trust us, you won’t want to miss this breathtaking place.

August 17 (Sunday) – Our final session is all about loosening up, sketching, reflecting, and asking any last questions. A relaxed moment to soak in everything we've experienced before we say our see-you-laters.

It’s an intensive, inspiring, and unforgettable week – we can’t wait to share it with you!
